Intro to Critical Thinking Skills Piece

I chose my timed writing from Intermission One. I watched “Akeelah and the Bee” at least 10 times in that one week period. I enjoyed the movie and got so much out of it. My children were learning a lot from it as well. We had to do a timed writing that explained the film’s message by considering how the character resolves the conflict between “being” and “belonging”. I thought I had the movie figured out until I read the prompt for us to write about. As I began my writing I realized that the secondary character, Mr. Larabee, was also struggling with “being” and “belonging”. It was like an epiphany. I then had to rethink my writing and include him and his struggles in my writing. The clock seemed to be running extra fast as I continued my writing.
